Los MTV Video Music Awards, conocidos también como MTV VMA, son unos premios creados en 1984 por el canal de televisión MTV para destacar a los mejores videos musicales del año. Originalmente, surgieron como una alternativa a los premios Grammy, sin embargo, han ganado respeto dentro de la cultura popular. Son presentados y transmitidos en vivo anualmente por MTV y CTV en Canadá. Las ceremonias se han llevado a cabo en diferentes ciudades, como Nueva York, Los Ángeles, Las Vegas y Miami.
Entre las versiones extranjeras de estos premios se encuentran los Premios MTV Latinoamérica, los MTV Europe Music Awards, los MTV Asia Awards, los MTV Australia Video Music Awards, MTV Russia Music Awards y los MTV Video Music Awards Japan, entre otros.
Los MTV VMA 2010 se realizarán en el Nokia Theatre de Los Ángeles el 12 de septiembre, teniendo como anfitriona a la comediante Chelsea Handler.
Lady Gaga rompió récords al obtener trece nominaciones con sus éxitos «Bad romance» y «Telephone». Además, por ser la primera en obtener dos nominaciones en un mismo premio: a Mejor Video del Año por «Bad romance» y «Telephone».
